On 10 July 2015, the extradition hearing of Jason Forde, a nurse whose extradition from Barbados is sought by United Kingdom authorities, in relation to an allegation of sexual conduct with a person with a mental disorder in the UK, was adjourned to 17 September 2015. A report is here.
Mr Forde, a resident of Christ Church, Barbados, is accused of engaging in sexual conduct with a person with a mental disorder, at a psychiatric hospital in London, on or before 10 May 2004. Mr Forde is alleged to have committed a further seven offences at the hospital.
On 10 July 2015, Magistrate Graveney Bannister, sitting in the District ‘A’ Traffic Court, Barbados, adjourned the hearing of Mr Forde. This was to enable the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), in the country, time to produce documentation as evidence of the fact that the Attorney General of Barbados had authorised the DPP to act on behalf of the UK, in respect of Mr Forde’s extradition. This is pursuant to section 79A-2(b) of the Barbados Constitution.
Mr Forde will remain on bail, subject to a $100,000 surety and daily reporting conditions at a local police station.
