On 8 October 2015, it was reported that the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland had confirmed that the United Kingdom has sought mutual legal assistance from Switzerland, with respect to the Nigerian energy magnate, Kola Aluko. According to reports, Mr Aluko is currently residing in the canton of Ticino, in southern Switzerland. The report by the news outlet ‘Punchng’ is here.
On an unspecified date, the news organisation posed three questions to the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland: first, had it received an extradition request for Mr Aluko, secondly, at what time would the extradition process begin, and thirdly when would Mr Aluko be extradited?
According to the report, the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland replied, stating: “I refer to your request of today and we can confirm that the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland (OAG) has received a request for mutual legal assistance from England in this context.” No further information was provided in relation to the request.
Mr Aluko is an associate of Diezani Alison-Madueke, who was arrested last week in the UK for alleged bribery and money laundering offences. A blog is here.
