Saudi Arabian sisters fight extradition from Turkey

21st Dec 2017

Two Saudi Arabian sisters resident in Turkey are fighting their extradition to Saudi Arabia, which they say they fled to escape an abusive family. Ashwaq and Areej Hamoud were detained in Turkey after their father claimed that their intention in leaving Saudi Arabia had been to join terrorist groups in Syria, but no public criminal investigation into them has yet been launched.

To date, the sisters have been unsuccessful in their attempts to fight extradition through Turkey’s courts, and their lawyer has warned that they face grave danger should they be sent back to Saudi Arabia.
