Extradition requests for Catalan separatists are dropped

20th Jan 2018

On 19th July 2018, a Spanish Supreme Court judge dropped extradition requests for six politicians who were wanted in order to face criminal charges for their roles in promoting Catalan independence. The six politicians who are no longer being requested for extradition are: former Catalan regional president Carles Puigdemont, Professor Clara Ponsatí, Mr Antoni Comín, Ms Meritxell Serret, Mr Lluís Puig, and Ms Marta Rovira.

Last week, a German court ruled that Mr Puigdemont could not be sent back to Spain to face rebellion charges, but he could be extradited to face trial on charges of embezzlement.
