Yesterday, police chiefs from around the world met in Dubai to elect the new President of INTERPOL. The previous President, Meng Hongwei, resigned last month after he was arrested in China on corruption charges.
Last week, South Africa added their candidate, Anbuen Scott Naidoo, into the running. Brigadier Anbuen Scott Naidoo was previously appointed to an INTERPOL executive committee in 2016 and has also been Head of INTERPOL in South Africa.
The role of President includes the following duties:
- presiding at meetings of the General Assembly and the Executive Committee and directing the discussions;
- ensuring that the activities of the Organization are in conformity with the decisions of the General Assembly and the Executive Committee; and
- maintaining , as far as possible, direct and constant contact with the Secretary General of the Organization.
