Dr Vijay Mallya’s application for leave to appeal denied

12th Apr 2019

On 15 February 2019, we reported that Dr Vijay Mallya had applied to the High Court for leave to appeal against the Extradition Order made by Senior District Judge Emma Arbuthnot, the Chief Magistrate, at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 10 December 2018. On 5 April 2019, Justice Davis rejected Dr Mallya’s application for permission to appeal on the papers. That ruling left Dr Mallya with five business days to reapply to the High Court for permission to appeal against the Extradition Order and request an oral hearing to consider whether or not he should be granted permission to appeal. This oral hearing will be scheduled to take place in the coming weeks. Whilst the appeal process is ongoing Dr Mallya remains remanded on bail.
