Japan issues formal extradition request for Ghosn accomplices

3rd Jun 2020

Japanese authorities have made a formal request to the US Department of State for the extradition of ex-Green Beret (US Special Forces) Michael Taylor and his son Peter Taylor, the pair suspected of facilitating former Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn’s escape from Japanese custody, in December 2019.

Mr Ghosn was under house arrest awaiting trial on fraud charges in Japan when he escaped to Lebanon (where he holds dual nationality) via Turkey. He has denied any wrongdoing and accused the Japanese authorities of holding him “hostage”.

The Taylors were first arrested in connection with assisting Mr Ghosn in May 2020 after warrants for their arrest were issued by Japanese prosecutors. They deny any involvement.
