Following the announcement by New Zealand’s Foreign Minister that the country was the latest to suspend extradition arrangements with Hong Kong, China responded in kind announcing the suspension of Hong Kong’s extradition treaties with the UK, Canada and Australia. It reserved the right to suspend arrangements with New Zealand.
The largely symbolic move comes as tensions between China and the Five Eyes nations grows in response to the imposition of a controversial Chinese national security law.
