On 7th March 2022, the members of the ‘Five Eyes’ (UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia) continued Ukraine’s initial February 2022 call for INTERPOL’s Executive Committee to suspend Russia’s access to the INTERPOL network (covered by P&P here).
In a public statement, Home Secretary Priti Patel confirmed that correspondence had been sent to the organisation calling for an urgent decision on Russia’s exclusion from INTERPOL’s communications network. In the Home Secretary’s public statement, she added that Russia’s invasion constituted a threat to the safety of individuals and to international law enforcement cooperation.
The call, which is part of wider efforts to isolate Russia from the global community following the Russian military invasion of Ukraine, would bar Russia’s National Central Bureau from sending and receiving messages with other INTERPOL Member States, and prohibit Russia from issuing Red Notices.
INTERPOL’s Executive Committee has yet to publicly comment on the matter.
